Your Mini Session Prep Guide
Mini sessions are one of my favorite ways to capture your family — quick, relaxed, and full of genuine connection. Whether you’re joining me in the studio or stepping in front of my lens for the first time, this guide will help you feel prepared and confident. With just a little planning, your mini session can be effortless, beautiful, and truly memorable.
Your Mini Session Prep Guide
Mini sessions are short, sweet, and full of magic. Whether you’re coming in for family photos, a milestone, maternity, or simply to capture this moment in time — here’s how to make your session feel easy, fun, and beautifully “you.”
1. Plan Your Outfits Early
A little planning goes a long way.
Choose neutral, soft, and timeless tones — think beige, cream, dusty rose, soft blue, olive, or warm brown.
These shades photograph beautifully and keep the focus on what matters most: you and your connection.
Tip: Lay out everyone’s outfits together ahead of time. They don’t need to match — just complement each other. And don’t forget to iron or steam everything the day before.
2. Keep It Simple and Comfortable
Mini sessions move quickly, so comfort is key.
If you or your kids feel good in what you’re wearing, it will show. Skip the itchy tags and stiff shoes — happy, comfortable people always make for the best photos.
I love photographing families either in socks or barefoot, which creates a cozy, comfortable, and natural look. It helps everyone feel relaxed and adds warmth to your images.
3. Arrive a Little Early
Mini sessions are scheduled back-to-back, so plan to arrive about ten minutes before your time slot.
Use that time to park, breathe, and get settled. A calm start helps us make the most of every minute together.
4. Don’t Stress — I’ve Got You
You don’t need to know how to pose or where to look — that’s my job.
I’ll gently guide you through the session so you can relax and enjoy the moment. Mini sessions are about connection, not perfection, so laugh, snuggle, play, and let your personalities shine.
5. With Your Little Ones in Tow
If you’re bringing children, a little preparation can make a big difference.
Pack a few essentials:
-
A small, mess-free snack (like crackers or puffs)
-
Wipes for quick touch-ups
-
A favourite toy or comfort item, just in case
Please make sure any snacks and sips of water are given before your session begins — we’ll only have about 15–20 minutes together, and I want to make the most of that time capturing beautiful, authentic moments.
And don’t worry if they get wiggly — those spontaneous giggles and cuddles often make the most heartwarming images.
6. Relax and Have Fun
This is your time to simply be together.
Let go of expectations, trust the process, and enjoy these few minutes in front of the camera. You’ll walk away with images that feel natural, warm, and full of life.
Bonus Tip: After Your Session
Once your gallery is ready, you’ll be able to download your images and order prints, frames, or cards directly through your gallery. It’s an easy and beautiful way to enjoy your photos for years to come.
I can’t wait to see you at your mini session. It’s going to be quick, joyful, and full of beautiful little moments you’ll treasure forever.
