The Little Model Prep Guide
Thank you for booking your child’s model session. My goal is to create natural, authentic images that showcase your child’s personality while meeting the needs of agencies and portfolio submissions.
What to Wear
The focus should be on your child—not their clothing.
Best Choices
✓ Solid colours and simple clothing
✓ Neutral tones: cream, white, beige, grey, navy, olive, and soft blues
✓ Comfortable, well-fitting, age-appropriate outfits
✓ Simple jeans, dresses, knitwear, t-shirts, or button-down shirts
Avoid
✗ Logos and branding
✗ Character clothing
✗ Neon colours
✗ Busy patterns
✗ Sequins, glitter, and distracting details
Please Bring 2–3 Looks
Look 1: Natural & Simple
Neutral top with jeans or simple bottoms, barefoot or clean new sneakers
Look 2: Elevated
Dress, knit sweater, or collared shirt, socks, and shoes
Look 3: Personality
An outfit that reflects your child’s style while remaining simple and polished, call clothes, clean, wrinkle-free.
Layers photograph beautifully: cardigans, denim jackets, knit sweaters, and overshirts.
Posing & Expressions
Children photograph best when they feel relaxed and free to be themselves.
We’re looking for:
Natural smiles
Confidence
Curiosity
Thoughtful expressions
Genuine personality
A few simple poses to practice:
Looking at the camera
Looking away
Hands in pockets
Sitting comfortably
Walking or turning naturally
There is no need for perfection. The goal is simply for your child to feel comfortable in front of the camera.
Hair & Makeup
Hair
Clean and brushed
Natural texture is encouraged
Simple, age-appropriate styling
Avoid heavy styling products
Bring a brush for touch-ups
Makeup
For children, less is more.
Recommended:
Moisturized skin
Clear lip balm
Avoid:
Heavy foundation
Contouring
False lashes
Bold eye makeup
Glitter
For older children and teens, very light, natural makeup is appropriate if it reflects their everyday appearance.
The Day of the Shoot
Please Arrive With:
✓ Clean face
✓ Clean, wrinkle-free clothing
✓ Hair styled and ready
✓ Water bottle and simple snacks
✓ A relaxed, positive attitude
Please Avoid:
✗ Arriving hungry or overtired
✗ Last-minute haircuts
✗ Spray tans
✗ Temporary tattoos
✗ Bright nail polish (if possible)
Most Important
The best photographs happen when children feel relaxed, seen, and free to be themselves.
Confidence, personality, and authenticity will always photograph better than a perfectly practiced pose.
I look forward to capturing your child’s unique spirit!
