As a natural light photographer, outdoor sessions are so so heavenly for me. I love doing sessions in nature as well as urban scapes. For me, I love outdoor sessions because the kiddos have all the room to be themselves, and the family comes together so beautifully. I like to think of these sessions as a fun family event. I thought I would share some of my favorite spots in and around Montreal to have family sessions. Depending on what kind of vibe you are looking for, these locations all offer wonderful outdoor elements whether it’s urban or rural.
Old Port of Montreal – I like to do family, couple sessions in the Old Port because it’s like being a tourist in your own city as we weave through the cobblestone streets and historic buildings. It offers a fun backdrop for families and a romantic allure for couples.
Parc Angrignon – Is saturated in Le Sud-Ouest borough of Montreal. This is a gorgeous green space and is one of Montreal’s largest parks. I love doing maternity sessions by the water with weeping willows by the lake, and lily pads floating on the surface. Something about the floral and fauna feels so maternal. Family sessions here are also fun, we meet in the morning and in the summer you can enjoy a picnic after our session with your kids. The fall season is especially beautiful, we go for an enjoyable fall walk amongst the golden foliage with the fam.
Nuns Island – For families in Nuns Island that want to capture some nature shots I have a secret spot that offers just the most precious sunset-lit pond setting, think water reeds, willow trees and lily pads.
Parc Saint-Henri – located in the heart of St Henri, in Sud-Ouest of Montreal. This special park is wonderful for a romantic fountain, I like to shoot couples and families here, it almost transports you to Williamsburg, Brooklyn New York.
Cap-Saint-Jacques Nature Park – I love this little beach at the end of summer September to November. It’s quieter in the off-season and is so fun for the kids to roam around in the sand.
Parc Jarry – Located in Villeray–Saint-Michel–Parc-Extension borough of Montreal, families in this area love this park for the nice architectural elements submerged in a green space and a great duck pond. This park does get busy so finding the best time to have our session is important.
Westmount Park – Centrally located in the City of Westmount, was inspired by the parks of Central Park and Mount Royal. It contains wonderful weaving walking paths, curated botanicals, playgrounds as well as a pond surrounded by willow trees and shaded benches. Where you can hear relaxing jazz on summer Sundays. Perfect for capturing intimate wedding photos, engagement, and family sessions.
Parc du Mont-Royal – The largest park in Montreal, centrally located in the city, and is gorgeous all year round is great for any occasion. It has a breathtaking lookout over the city to the St Lawrence River. Personally, I love the changing colours of the trees in fall.
Botanical Gardens – Located on the east end of Montreal, boast its three seasons of diverse flora. The mornings and late afternoons are the best time to capture some beautiful photos of couples and families. Spring offers gorgeous cherry blossoms and a fun way to enjoy spring.
